Don't miss the theatrical event of 2025 as the record-breaking, award-winning My Neighbour Totoro transfers to London's West End.
Find your spirit with the return of the "awe-inspiring" (Time Out) production of Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbour Totoro, in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV. Following two rapturously received, sell-out runs at the Barbican, discover this five-star, ground-breaking "triumph" (Telegraph) at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from 8 March 2025.
Winner of six Olivier Awards, this "utterly beguiling" (The Stage) and “jaw-dropping” (Metro) staging of the celebrated 1988 animated feature film is brought to you by the Royal Shakespeare Company and Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi, and adapted by Tom Morton-Smith (Oppenheimer).
Hailed as “a tender and remarkably beautiful show” (Financial Times), My Neighbour Totoro is an enchanting coming-of-age story exploring the magical fantasy world of childhood and the transformative power of imagination, as it follows one extraordinary summer in the lives of sisters Satsuki and Mei.
AGE RECOMMENDATION: 6+ Younger guests are welcome although the production is not suitable for under 4 years old (including babes in arms). Children need to occupy their own seat at all times through the performance. All persons aged 16 or under must be accompanied by an adult and may not sit on their own within the auditorium. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket.
It was simply incredible... I am not particularly a theater person and My Neighbour Totoro is one of my favourite Ghibli so I was a little apprehensive and gosh I was transported and even got emotional. I am very happy we got to experience it and hope there will be more performances of Ghibli masterpieces.
Torpedo can present every detail of the movie on the stage, and the actors, live accompanists, singers and backstage staff all have very wonderful performances.
Amazing performance and puppetry. Brilliant set. Definitely a show I wont forget!
Superb production but the Barbican is such a poor venue. And no XXL T-shirts is disappointing.
My wife and I thought this was an absolute joy, and perfect in every respect. The puppetry, set design, performance, music and choreography was impeccable. The use of the revolving floor and the shifting of sets made full use of the stage, and it was a wonder to behold from beginning to end. The atmosphere was wonderful in the theatre - in the emotional scenes you could hear a pin drop, and with the curtain call the audience were ecstatic in their appreciation of such a faithful yet innovative production. Can't recommend highly enough!
"My Neighbor Totoro" felt like a mesmerizing journey into another world, where magic and wonder abound. From the enchanting characters to the breathtaking landscapes, every moment of the play transports you to a realm filled with awe and delight. It effortlessly captures the essence of childhood imagination and the beauty of the natural world, leaving a lasting impression that resonates long after the applauses of the audience roll. Truly, "My Neighbor Totoro" is a masterpiece that enchants audiences of all ages with its timeless charm and boundless imagination.
Brilliant in all aspects
This show is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Every part of the production from the actors to the stage work made this show amazing. Great Music, beautiful scenes and masterful puppetry made this a show that I would love to see again.
The best show I have seen so far.
The stage production was phenomenal. I was really worried about how they were going to do certain parts of the story, and I was absolutely blown away by how well they did.
Wow just wow. This was an amazing production, so fun and engrossing. We absolutely loved it. It was so well thought through an amazing adaptation of the film and book.
Absolutely brilliant! Incredible sets! Superb performances! Amazing puppets and puppeteering! And all the while true to the original film. Just the purest joy that the theatre has to offer!
